Bombs falling
Another Group on
another city. As resistance waned warnings were issued in advance, we will bomb
one of the following three cities tonight, evacuate.....another method used to
destroy the will to fight....you've lost
we can bomb anywhere you can no longer stop us.......surrender......they
didn’t have a surrender mode, the Atomic
Bomb followed.

Typical damage to
aircraft plants, the results of mix of high explosive and fire bombs. For every
hit there were many misses. This factory complex was one of the most hit and most missed.

Long
Boy 'Atomic Bomb' in special Bombay with doors opened. Practice drop of Long
Boy dummy Atomic Bomb.
Airplane drove over
a pit and bomb was lifted up. Bombay doors were fitted to bomb which was not
entirely encased by Bombay. These
photos once secrete are from IMPACT an official Army Air Corp publication, that
these would be Atomic Bombs was not
disclosed at the time.

Flight of man made
birds returning home – to North Field Guam. The lowest on fuel will land first,
others will circle, landing at about 1 minute intervals on each runway. This
field is home to almost 200 airplanes, 90% of which could have been in the air
this day. One took off every 30 seconds, they will all be returning about the
same time, unless damaged or having problems.
The planes were equipped with seven methods of navigation, if one kind
of method went out they could change to another. Radio beacons were the most
used to aim for home, where they were on that path was determined by the
Navigator.
This field was soon
to be used by following generations of aircraft, these B-29's were destined to
be destroyed in Arizona to salvage aluminum for their siblings, none were
spared even for museums.
