R Fitzgerald#_
R Fitzgerald#? by D Landau: “Maj R. Fitzgerald 73rd Wing down over target, all but two of crew lost. Bob Nelson, Navigator, & one gunner survived crash. Bob was beheaded Aug ‘45. The event used as evidence in War Crimes trial in Philippines. Bob was my college room mate & we took exams for cadets at Ft Riley -- he passed, I was color blind. I eventually became Eng Officer 28th Sqd, now compiler of this document. When on Guam I was only aware he was missing, after the war via his family and researching news papers I found what had happened. The gunner was also killed but I don’t know when.

Receiving the Air Medal from Col Roberts, 19th BG CO

**** O ****
News of Ted’s death came as a shock to those
of the 19th BG Association who had visited with Ted and his wife Jo
Ann at the 1996 reunion in Sept at Ft Worth TX; Ted seemed in excellent health.
As always Ted was a major participant in these reunions -- Ted had taken on the
task of providing memorabilia for the association. Ted was known to all and his
enthusiastic support was greatly valued and appreciated. I can speak for those
who knew him, each feels they have lost a true personal friend. Ted was
dedicated to the task at hand – I inserted his “in case lost” identity photo
from 1945. DL
